SITAR 1920 is the oldest workshop for making stamps and engraving in Slovenia, and the only one that still handcrafts wooden (children’s) stamps. It is the heritage and tradition of the city of Ljubljana, an in-situ museum. They have many interesting stories and anecdotes to tell about the wealth of fast-disappearing artisan knowledge that has been passed down from generation to generation.
Since good stories simply deserve new chapters, Minea Sončan Mihajlović and Jelena Marković decided to buy the workshop in 2018 from the third generation of its then-retiring owners. Based on tradition, but with a fresh and personal note, they leave their mark and enjoy creating new stories with graphic and industrial designers, painters, illustrators and other creative minds. In addition to children’s stamps, whose motifs they develop through various collaborations, they are extremely proud of the ex-libris, through which they entered the field of small graphics. They use materials of local origin in their products and, by collaborating with various local craftsmen and artisans, such as carpenters, cardboard manufacturers, printers, and seamstresses, they give back to the environment in which they live and work.
